Eco Team News

Eco-Team-LogoThank you to everyone who took part in the Litter Slogan Competition. We had lots of entries that made it very difficult to pick the winners.

The winning slogan from KS1 was sent in by Ethan Witter 1DS

Please feed this hungry bin by putting all your litter in!

The winning slogan from KS2 was sent in by William Harknett 5RD

Keep it clean, Keep safe, put your litter in its place!

We shall be printing these slogans on to stickers around the school and on the bins to encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin.

Congratulations to Ethan and William, we hope you like your wind up torches.

Science Day!

WCPS enjoyed Science Day yesterday. Children across the school took part in fun and practical experiments to help to develop their investigation skills. Some of the experiments included bread making, tie-dye work, making music and observing what happens when a 'Mentos' sweet is put in a bottle of coke!

As well as conducting investigations with their teachers, the children also had the opportunity to work with the company 'Sustrans'. They learnt what renewable energy is and various ways that this can be generated, including cycling on a bike. Some of the children had a try at lighting up to 4 light bulbs by riding a bike linked up to a generator, some teachers even had a go too! We found out that it took much less power to light up an energy saving light bulb than an original one.

Football Match Cancelled

Today's scheduled football match away at Little Sutton has been cancelled until further notice due to the condition of the pitch.

'Tunes Times Tables' fun at Whitehouse Common!

We have had a fantastic day today at Whitehouse Common Primary School learning our times tables by singing and rapping!  We had 'Tunes Times Tables' and Mr NK spend the day with us to teach us our tables.  We rapped and used actions to learn them in a fun way - even the teachers loved it!

Some of our comments are:

  • "It was really fun!" - Leah
  • "Tunes Times Tables is an exciting and unique way of learning our tables" - Shiven
  • "In the workshop I learnt how fun and easy it is to get your timestables correct!" - Oliver

We really hope to teach our parents and friends the raps and continue to sing them so that we learn our timestables by heart.

Eco Team Slogan Competition

eco-friendlyThe Eco Team are holding a new competition. They are asking children to use their imagination and come up with a slogan or catch phrase that will encourage everyone to put their litter in the bin. The Eco Team will then choose one slogan from KS1 one from KS2. The slogan will then be put on all the bins around the school. The two winners will receive an eco-friendly wind up torch. So please get your thinking caps on! [Click here] to download the entry form.

Lichfield Cathedral Christmas Concert

After weeks of dedicated rehearsals, 15 Year 5 children were able to showcase their hardwork by taking part in the Christmas concert at Lichfield Cathedral on Wednesday evening. Our students were part of the Four Oaks Cluster Choir and their performance, which included Star Carol, The Gift and An African Crib Carol, was enjoyed thoroughly by parents, grandparents and members of the local community. The Whitehouse Common staff who attended the performance, were extremely proud of the smart and enthusiastic students who clearly sang their heart out. We endeavoured to match their performance when we had the opportunity to sing along with everyone to some traditional Christmas hymns. A special mention must be stated for Joseph Bardsley who demonstrated a calm and confident manner whilst reading a passage alone in front of the whole congregation. Well done to all the children who took part, it was an enjoyable evening for everyone.
