Microorganism surprises!

Year 5 have been lucky enough to have visitng Science Teachers from Arthur Terry who brought along some microscopes for us to explore microorganisms with. In the first session, we looked at different plates containing things like tea bags, hair, intestine and kidneys. We then took swabs of our hands and transferred them onto special jelly in petri dishes, which we left for a week.

Once the week was up, we looked back at what had grown on our petri dishes - it was very interesting! We observed differnt types of growth and did some research to find out why they had certain similarities and differences.

It was very interesting, and we can certainly say that we have remembered the importance of washing our hands regularly!
