PE Events and Competitions - dates

We have a new section on the PE page that lists all of the events we are registered in through Wilson Stuart Active Society for this academic year. This can be found under Curriculum> PE/Sport> PE Events and Competitions

Please take a moment to check this if your child would like to take part, as we want to limit 'last minute drop outs' this year as much as possible.

If you would like to attend any event as parent helper, this would be greatly appreciated - please contact Mrs Mytton via the Oaks office.

Thank you

Cross country at Bishop Veseys

Tonight the year 5 and 6 cross country team took part in the 2nd race of the season at Bishop Veseys. On a beautiful sunny evening, the team were very excited as they walked across the Vesey field down to the start by the cricket pavillion.

boys bvgsThe boys' race was first. The start is always very cramped and unfortunately a couple of our runners got tripped and fell. However, they recovered and the whole team ran with determination and 100% effort. Our leading runner was Ben H who finished 23rd;  Joe, Lucas and Myles finished in a bunch in 60th, 65th and 66th.

As the boys were finishing, the girls set off. Chasing the 'hare' they sped around the fields. The boys joined Señora Stevens to encourage the girls as they rounded the corner and circled the tennis courts. Isabell ran incredibly, finishing 9th, closely followed by Aliya in 21st, and Mariah and Laila in 33rd and 34th.

Well done to everyone who ran for your excellent cooperation and wonderful team spirit. Thanks too got to the parents who supported the team, and to the team's siblings who picked up lots of conkers for Reception!

The next race is in March so time for some training before then!

Run 4 School money - final plea!

We have been very succesful so far in receiving a great amount of sponsorship money from children who took part in the Run 4 School event, however we are aware that not all children have been able to bring theirs in yet.

We ask that you please do this as soon as possible, as we are in the process of final counts and contacting the Norman Laud representative to award our contribution to their wonderful organisation.

A reminder that, as promised, there will also be a reward for the individual child and class with the most sponsorship.

Thank you again for your support and participation in this fantastic event.

We look forward to finding out what the children would like to invest the sponsorship money in to improve our sporting ethos and opportunities further!

A final thank you to our T-shirt sponsors: Four Oaks School of Soccor and Principal Business Solutions

Football Development Courses with Aston Villa

footballdevcoursesThis is a great opportunity from Aston Villa Football Club to join the Football Development Centres at Arthur Terry School, Sutton Coldfield. The Centres are for boys and girls who have a keen interest in football and will give players a pathway to reach the girls' RTC or boys'Academy.

Cross country at Bishop Walsh 19.09.17

teamOn Tuesday the cross country season kicked off at Bishop Walsh where the first race of the WSAS Cross Country League took place. After a huge number of children trying out last week, a squad of 8 boys and 8 girls was picked. As usual, this coincided with Year 6 being at Howtown but this gave an opportunity for our new Year 5s to show us their talents.

It was a lovely evening and conditions were excellent. Wearing our new school Tshirts and big smiles, our team set off racing around the playing fields at Bishop Walsh.

The boys ran first then, as they reached the 3/4 point, the girls started. Señora Stevens was torn between shouting encouragement and organising but managed to do both, and the races went well. Every one of our team finished strongly, and those that had finished shouted encouragement at their teammates, some even turning round and cheering when they'd only just finished and were still short of breath. Particularly well done to Jalen, Ben and Joe who finished 10th, 12th and 39th respectively, and Olivia, Mariah and Kirstie who finished 25th 26th and 42nd in their race.

Señora Stevens was very proud of all of them and was especially pleased by the excellent attitude and good manners they showed to other adults and their fellow competitors. They were excellent ambassadors for Whitehouse Common. Year 6 - you're going to have to work hard to regain your places on the team!
